Dr. Alana Tuxen MBBS (Hons), BMedSci,
FACD Medical Dermatologist

Dr Alana Tuxen (she/her) is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She has been a specialist for over 10 years. Alana completed her dermatology specialty training in 2011 and was awarded as the top graduate in Australia.

Alana has lived and worked in private practice in Ballarat for over 10 years. She is a general medical dermatologist and provides treatment for people of all ages and all skin types. Alana travels regularly to Melbourne to attend specialty clinics and holds public hospital appointments at Monash Health in Clayton and the Skin Health Institute in Carlton. Alana is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne.

Dr Alana Tuxen studied medicine at The University of Melbourne and was the top graduate of The Royal Melbourne Hospital Clinical School in 2004. She was awarded a number of academic prizes. She also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science, which is a laboratory-based medical research degree, and a Diploma of Surgical Anatomy.

After commencing training as a specialist dermatologist, Alana worked in a variety of clinical settings, including paediatric dermatology at the Royal Children’s Hospital, complex medical dermatology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital, cancer dermatology at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and subspecialty and surgical dermatology at The Skin and Cancer Foundation of Victoria.

Alana achieved the highest mark in Australia in the fellowship exams of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2011. She was awarded the Ken Paver Medal for Medical Dermatology, and the Australasian College of Dermatologists’ Travelling Fellowship. This scholarship allowed her to visit several paediatric dermatology centres in the USA.

 In 2012 Alana began private practice at Male St Specialist Rooms in Brighton, and Barker’s Road Dermatology in Kew. She was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist at Monash Health where she continues to see both adults and children with skin problems. Alana also works at the Skin Health Institute as a specialist in the Hair Disorders clinic. 

Alana has enjoyed establishing a regional private practice and has appreciated the variety of work and kindness of her patients from Ballarat and all the surrounding Grampians regions. Alana, her husband and their children love living in this beautiful area and are so glad they decided on a tree change.
