NURSE LED CLINICS

Chantal Riseley
Dermatology Nurse

Gentle Dermatology has introduced Nurse-Led Clinics with the aim of providing rapid access to services that can be delivered by trained nurses who are supervised by a Dermatologist.

If this is a suitable option for your condition, your GP will provide you with a referral to one of the clinics available.

Warts & Molluscum Contagiosum

This clinic is for patients with straight forward warts or molluscum who would like rapid access to treatment. You must have a referral to attend this clinic.

The cost of your initial appointment depends on the duration of the appointment and whether or not Dr Tuxen is required to attend. The fee is generally $205, and if you only see the nurse, there is no Medicare rebate.

For subsequent consultations, the fee again depends on the duration of the appointment, but is usually between $40 and $80.  If Dr Tuxen is required to attend any of these subsequent consultations, your total cost will likely be higher, but we try and keep these extra costs as low as possible.

If you would prefer to wait for an appointment with Dr Alana Tuxen, her normal wait-list and fees apply.

Eczema

This clinic aims to provide up to date education about skin care, wet dressings and bleach baths, which are all integral parts of managing and preventing eczema. During these appointments we will demonstrate how to perform wet dressings and give practical advice about the skin care products we recommend. These appointments are considered an adjunct to the treatment prescribed by your doctor, and Dr Alana Tuxen does not attend. If you require advice about prescription treatments, you will need a referral to see Alana instead.

The cost of these appointments depends on the length of the appointment, but the fee is generally $90. There is no Medicare rebate for these appointments.

Patch Testing

For a select patients, we can offer patch testing in our nurse led clinic. This allows more rapid access for those keen to determine if they have a contact allergy. Patch testing is testing for allergies to contact allergens such as fragrances, preservatives in cosmetics, metals, hair dye ingredients and adhesives in dressings. It is not testing for food allergies, grasses or pollens, or animal dander. We customise the list of allergens we test to depending on the patients’ exposures including hobbies and occupation. Once patients have their patch testing results, they must see their referring doctor for ongoing follow up. The cost of these appointments depends on the number of allergens we test and a quote is provided before booking this in. A referral is required for nurse led patch testing. If you are a referring doctor and would like more information about this service, please contact us via phone or email and we would be happy to help.
